what is dangerous?
Anything that takes us away from our comfort zone might represent a danger; the possibility that we can be harmed or hurt. Sometimes our comfort zone is the fear of the unknown. In any situation, we need to be able to ask ourselves the reasons why we feel we are in danger.
At times we are uncomfortably in danger when we are around things and elements that are not familiar to our everyday life. Danger leads to fear, that instinct that helps us deal with a dangerous situation. However, that fear can subside and or diminish if we look at the situation in a different way.
Animals
I had no idea if my delicious-looking breakfast would make this feisty creature bite me (or not). As a point of reference, I have been badly bitten by a monkey and badly scratched by a bat on the amazon. Go figure my love for animals…
At times it is important to use our own judgment and assess danger….
I am terrified of frogs. I encountered plenty inside my toilet AFTER I used it….no fun
Sometimes things CAN be dangerous. These little frogs loved to hide in the toilet…needless to say, I found out the hard way!!!!
Arms
When you are in Israel, like in some other places, firearms are a common sight. There are arm guards all around and people here learn to live around people who are armed. It is a bit uncomfortable for the ones who are not around guns and it might cause fear.
After a terrorist attack in May 2019 on the road in Sri Lanka, passengers were supposed to get off the bus at checkpoint stations. Many times I felt really bad because I was left without being checked inside the bus…we are not living in a just world, I know it.
The activity of the cartel in Latin America is getting out of control. Some beaches are officially considered very dangerous. During my last visit to Mexico, at the end of 2022, it was very difficult to relax at the beach. Nonetheless, it all depends on the level of someone’s level of “comfort” while being around arms.
Mosquitoes
However, sometimes people fear mosquitos because of the fear of getting sick. There are so many diseases caused by mosquitos; dengue, West Nile virus, malaria, Chikungunya, Yellow fever, and encephalitis among others. Luckily we have mosquito spray and mosquito nets to feel much safer, travel at ease, and avoid itching the whole time.
According to experts, blood type, the amount of carbon dioxide you exhale, metabolism -I thought mine was slow- skin bacteria, beer intake -I don’t like beer- and genetics. Well, I guess I am a knockout to mosquitos.
Bathrooms
Some believe there are insects and animals living inside an outhouse. While some of this is true, most outhouses are cleaner than some gas stations’ public loo.
Let’s face it, we fear a creature is going to crawl up and out of that toilet, or maybe our soft skin would get scratched. However, there is toilet paper so there is hope.!
Transportation Issues
Nothing better than getting on the plane, taking a look out the window, and seeing a human being dressed in a spacesuit like de-icing your plane. It does make for a great start to your trip!
Diseases
Traveling can be exciting but at times quite challenging. The advice to follow is always from a healthcare professional. Being healthy starts with washing your hands always!!! r
Unwanted Guests
While traveling we stay in unknown places, and we can be surprised by interesting circumstances. Sometimes you have no idea who the “guest” will be and or who will open your door and wake you up with a loud moo!! yeap, yeap While in Norther Rajasthan my alarm clock every morning turned to be a cow!
Food
We fear the unfamiliar but it can surprise us with a heavenly taste!!! one of the best dishes might not look so good to some. No danger in trying but make sure it is not too spicy for your taste.
